13 Times Kate Moss Proved That "Less Is More" Is Bullsh*t
The unofficial guide to night-out style.
A couple of weeks ago, I found myself sitting in Kate Moss' closet, listening to her share her fashion and beauty wisdom. Okay, fine: It wasn't her actual closet but a mock-up, one that British cosmetics brand Rimmel had created in a London mansion to celebrate Kate's 15th anniversary as the face of the brand, complete with pieces from Kate's actual wardrobe. Her tips for how to put it all together were as unapologetically rock 'n' roll as you'd expect from the style icon. (My favorite one she told me? Wear a nude lip when you're going to a concert, "because you can't go around kissing people [backstage] with a red lip." Obviously.)
For that situation, you can reach for one of the the six lip colors Kate created for her new collection of limited edition Rimmel lipsticks, which are all varying tones of red or nude. For a normal night out, Kate will almost always opt for a red, pretty much no matter what she's wearing. That's the thing: She's never afraid of doing "too much" makeup or too strong a beauty look with her standout fashion. This, after all, is the woman who wore a sheer red dress with a leopard bodysuit underneath to Mario Testino's birthday. (Of that look, she told me, "When I put [that] together, I just thought: more leg and the red lip.")
Here, in honor of her Rimmel lip collection launch, let's take a look back at some of Kate's best over-the-top fashion and beauty looks, where she's proven that when you do it right, more is actually more.
