After a whirlwind wedding, it goes without saying that Pippa Middleton and James Matthews are in need of a relaxing honeymoon away from the limelight. After all, the pair planned it in less than a year and hosted upwards of 300 guests at the highly-anticipated affair. Which is why they're reportedly escaping to The Brando in French Polynesia this week.
According to the Daily Mail, the resort is named after Hollywood legend, Marlon Brando, who bought the private island of Tetiaroa in 1967 after falling in love with it while filming "Mutiny On The Bounty." After Brando died in 2004, the property was turned into a luxurious eco-friendly resort that's a favorite escape for celebrities, in part because it offers unbeatable service and privacy.
The two-and-a-half-square-mile-long island is a necklace of coral islets encircling a crystal-clear lagoon. All 35 guest villas along the white sand beaches feature seawater air-conditioning, solar electricity and generators that run on coconut oil. And they're totally immersed in nature, which is why it's not uncommon for guests to spot sea turtles and exotic birds — take a look.
The most notable suite has three bedrooms, is a whopping 2,648-square-feet and has a private 236-square-foot private pool right outside of it. That's also why it's also the most expensive, costing around $11,200 per night. If we had to bet, we'd say this is where the newlyweds will be spending their first week as husband and wife.
When it comes to food, the resort has two restaurants, both of which are overseen by Guy Martin, who formerly worked at a Michelin two star restaurant in Paris. We wonder if the cuisine is part of the reason the pair picked this destination, since based on their extravagant wedding menu we know it's a priority for them.
After their beach escape, there are reports that the pair will head to the Highlands in Scotland, which makes sense since Matthews's father currently holds the title of Laird of Glen Affric and owns a 10,000-acre Scottish estate. We think a two-week-long honeymoon is just what this couple needs after months of wedding planning.
