The more things change, the more they stay the same. At least, that's what it seems like in the celebrity romance camp. Here's the proof: In the last three weeks, Selena Gomez and The Weeknd, whose Instagram cuddles and public PDA kept us glued to our phones for most of 2017, broke up; Gomez looks to basically be back together with her ex Justin Bieber; and The Weeknd was spotted leaving his ex Bella Hadid's apartment.
While it doesn't sound too definitive, a lowkey Bella Hadid–The Weeknd reconciliation might be happening, multiple sources told Entertainment Tonight and E!. "Bella is busy, she's not really dating and The Weeknd is someone familiar and who she cares about. It's easy," a source told ET. "I don't think it'll become serious, but I'm sure she's happy to spend time with him while they're in the same city."
Conversely, The Weeknd might not have been too happy about how familiar Gomez and Bieber remained, ET's source added. "He didn't love that [Selena] and Justin [Bieber] started hanging out again, and he was always a bit jealous of him."
According to E!'s sources, Hadid and The Weeknd still love each other. "He has expressed to her that he loves her still, and they will always have a real connection," one source said. "He also apologized for hurting her in the past." (The singer unfollowed Hadid on Instagram while he was dating Gomez, and Hadid has talked about her trouble getting over their breakup—he began seeing Gomez pretty soon afterwards.)
Still, Hadid is apparently in no rush. "She still loves him but has her guard up," a source said. "She never really got over him. She is not looking to be exclusive with him now, just to be his friend. His schedule won't allow him to stay focused on her—she knows this from past experience. She also knows he is talking to a few girls still. She reads what is put out in the news and that affects her." (The Weeknd was recently spotted out with Bieber's ex, Yovanna Ventura.)
Time will tell whether we'll see this former couple back together, according to the source: "She would give Abel another try, maybe down the road, but is taking small steps before she jumps back into a relationship." Interesting—this might just be the winter of romance repeats.
